It has been a blast to share many of my favorite artists (who are somewhat or totally obscure) in past blogs. I felt it was time to share a wide array of my absolute favorite songs from 2 personal playlists.

So let’s get started with the 3rd in this series of favorite songs:

Mellowing Grey by Family. Family is one of those groups you either know well, or have never heard of! They are a family favorite, and this song comes from their 1st album released in 1968. I love these early albums!

My Edge of the Razor — by John Hiatt. I have been a long time fan of John Hiatt, and this song was first heard on a cassette from John’s 5th album (released in 1982), and I fell for John’s music fully!

Even Still by Band of Horses. Band of Horses was an accidental discovery from one of my music magazines. I have loved most of what I have heard by them, and this song is one of my favorites. Had the chance to see them play live here in Springfield, MO, and it was a great show!

Crazy Eyes by Poco. Poco is a band that you have heard of, but may have never listened to closely. This album was the last Poco album for Rich Furay, and the first for Timothy Schmidt. Great album, and this song is my favorite!

You Touched My Soul by Michael Fennelly. A real obscurity, Michael first played with a group in the sixties known as Crabby Appleton, and then released a couple of solo albums. This is from his first solo album and is one of his best!

Last Chance Texaco by Rickie Lee Jones. This song has long been one of my personal favorites from Rickie’s first album. It is a delight!

Wild West by Lissie. Another of my music magazine discoveries, Lissie has a huge voice and interesting sound.

Vehicle by Ides of March. This song was released in 1970 and rapidly became a long time favorite. With their Chicago style horns, this song was a huge hit!

Charlie Darwin by the Low Anthem. Another of my music magazine discoveries, this low key and unusual song is a great one and a real favorite!

That’s it for the third installment of the Totally Obscure — Absolute Favorites but you can be sure there is more coming! Hope you enjoy!
